Privacy policy

PlansByZip is an independent referral service for people in the United States. We run this website and connect callers to third-party sales partners who can check home internet plans at an address. We are not an internet service provider. This policy explains what information is handled when you use the site, send us a message, or call the number shown on the site.

The short version

• You can read this whole site without giving us any personal information.
• We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels.
• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not call or text you. You decide whether to call.

What the website collects

You do not need an account to use this site. When you enter a ZIP code, your browser loads a list of ZIP codes from this site to show the matching city. We do not save the ZIP you enter. The choices you make in the speed estimator stay in your browser.

If you send us a message through the email form, we receive the email address, the ZIP code if you add one, and the message you write. The message is delivered to our inbox by a form delivery service, which keeps a copy for up to 30 days. We use it only to reply to you by email. We do not add you to a mailing list. When you send the form you agree to our Terms of Use, and we keep a record of that agreement: the wording you agreed to, the time, and the IP address you sent it from.

Like any website, our hosting provider processes technical data to deliver and protect the site: your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time of each request. Fonts and scripts are served from this site, not from third-party networks. If we add analytics later, we will update this policy first.

What happens when you call

The phone number on this site is a tracking number. When you call it, a call-routing service connects you to a sales partner. That service and the partner receive your phone number and the date, time and length of the call. Calls may be monitored or recorded by the routing service and the partner for quality, training and compliance. If you do not want to be recorded, tell the agent at the start of the call or do not call.

The agent will ask for your address and other details needed to check availability or place an order. That information is collected by the partner and by the provider you choose, under their own privacy policies. We receive a call report (caller number, time, length and outcome) so we can be paid for the referral and prevent fraud.

If you ask the agent to follow up, their company may contact you at the number you called from. PlansByZip itself does not make sales calls or send text messages.

How we use information

We use the information above to run the site, answer messages, route calls, measure which pages lead to calls, get paid by our partners, and detect abuse.

Who receives information

• Service providers that work for us: website hosting, form delivery, and call routing and tracking.
• Sales partners who answer your call, and the provider you choose to order from. Your call is the service you asked for, so they receive your number and what you tell them.
• Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect against fraud.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

How long we keep it

Messages you send us, with the record of your agreement to the Terms of Use, are kept for four years. Call reports are kept for up to 24 months for accounting and fraud prevention, or longer if the law requires.

Your privacy choices

Wherever you live in the United States, you can ask us to tell you what information we hold about your phone number or email address, to correct it, or to delete it. We keep only what we must for accounting, legal and fraud-prevention reasons. We will not treat you differently for asking. Some states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others, give residents these rights by law, along with the right to appeal a refusal.

To make a request, write to us through our contact form and tell us the phone number or email address it concerns. We answer within 45 days. For information held by a sales partner or an internet provider, contact that company directly.

Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection. We limit who can see messages and call reports. No method of sending or storing data is completely secure, so please do not send sensitive details such as payment card or Social Security numbers through the email form.

Children

This site is meant for adults arranging internet service for a home. It is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If we change this policy we will post the new version here with a new effective date.
